BMW E24 6-Series Fuel Level Sending Unit Removal and Re-Installation

If you like, you can skip directly to where you can buy this part.

If your fuel gauge is misbehaving, it’s probably a lot easier to swap out the fuel sending unit (as opposed to the gauge) to see if that changes anything.

To remove this part, I opened the trunk and moved carpeting out of the way so as to expose the circular black plate above the in-tank fuel pump and fuel level sending unit.

I removed that plate, by removing its 3 Philips screws. The plate has a gasket between it, and the trunk floor.

I next used an 8mm socket with an extension, to remove the four nuts that attach the fuel level sending unit to the in-tank fuel pump top.
